These Devil Dogs are absolutely beautiful creations! And they are very impressive to serve at a party. (Trust me. When I served these at a church dinner party, the woman oohed as we brought them out!) Combine that with the fact that they taste sinfully delicious...and they are just about the perfect party dessert.
The cake and frosting recipes are already posted here on my recipe blog, but sometimes it helps to have some ideas on how to use recipes in a different way!
Start off with a Texas Sheet Cake! Use your own favorite sheet cake recipe, or HERE is a link to mine! When your cake is done baking, and while it is cooling (you want it to be completely cool), go ahead and make the frosting!
Pioneer Woman used a whipped cream frosting for her filling of these Devil Dogs, and I totally agree with her that it is the best choice! HERE is my recipe. When you are ready to assemble, place the frosting in a disposable frosting/piping bag and cut off the tip of the bag. No frosting tip is needed.
(Pioneer woman had a rectangle cookie cutter in which she achieved theseperfect rectangles. I couldn't find a rectangle cookie cutter, so I cut my cake
using a pizza cutter and got the same results!)
Once you have your cake cut...let's assemble these bad boys! It is fairly simple and self explanatory! Take one rectangle of cake for the bottom, and squeeze enough frosting on top of it to cover the cake. Then place another rectangle of cake on top and gently press down.
